Chapter Twenty-Two

Kevin’s untimely death was only the beginning of the chaos in India at the cathedral. The people seeking salvation and trying to seek answers from the madness in the world had been afflicted by it directly. However, minutes after the man’s death was delivered from the sky, three shafts of light appeared revealing new horrors.

The crowd of people seeking safety from a world gone mad in a building designed to save people had walked unknowingly into a death trap.

Yokaiju, the leader of the creatures, had finally made his first appearance on the physical world in an eternity. The burning, skeletal beast seemed to be only that. A six-hundred-foot-tall pillar of nothing but fire and white saurian shaped bone standing on two legs. His eyes were black holes. His long skeletal arms ended in five sharp fingers tipped with razor sharp claws.

Lysis made his first appearance to the public, however. Unlike the burning demon it stood next to, Lysis was a monster of a different kind of terror. Its body was four hundred feet of black and mushy material with no distinct solid shape. The body was in constant motion with tentacles merging and emerging from the core of the thing at random, it was living chaos. Yokaiju’s flames reflected of off Lysis’s wet surface and gave him the illusion of shimmering in the night.

Malpirgin also transformed with the other two. However, in stark contrast to the others, she resembled a shining dragon. Her wings stretched out over five hundred feet and were bright green and other faint colors pulsated within. Her body was silver and reflected Yokaiju’s flames as well. Of the three of them she was the most pleasant to look and at only three hundred feet tall, was the smallest, height wise, of the three things that were attacking the crowd right now.

The priest never had a chance to address the crowd and try to comfort him. He watched from his balcony as the beasts appeared. “God, what have we done to deserve this?” he asked no one as he watched the things he could only describe as demons, appear in the night in the distance.

Despite his faith, he felt his fear rising up his spine. He expected an answer, but he only got silence. Maybe there was no God out there at all. He shook his head and banished the thought as soon as he could.

“Father, we need to get out of here right now,” a voice said to him from behind as he stared out the window. The man barely heard them as he was transfixed by the devils outside. “No, don’t you see? This is our punishment. Our wars, abuse of the earth, all of our sins. This is God’s way of telling us our time is up. I am safe here,” he said, now confident this was the case and now he talked himself into believing that God would protect him.
